Punching Through the Bedrock

English Audio Version

Even in the desert, there’s usually water.

Visit the Sahara in North Africa. Bone dry, the largest desert on the planet.

Yet, a thousand feet down and there’s plenty of water.

More than you can pump out of the ground.

We just need to punch through the bedrock to get at it . . . and there’s the problem.

How do we get down a thousand feet through the dissected sand and rock in our way to reach the life-giving flow of clean, pure water?

Spiritually, we face the same dilemma. God is there for us all the time, never far away, We simply need to punch our way through to his life-giving flow.

John 4:14 says:

“But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

In life (as in the Sahara) we can manually begin digging, and eventually we will find water. If we have access to machinery, we can drill down (and down and down) until we reach liquid life that we can pump to the surface.

Spiritually, we must believe Jesus is the Son of the Living God, choose to accept his authority in our lives, and change our lives to align with his example as revealed in the Bible.

A spring of water welling up to eternal life. That’s Jesus. That’s our salvation in and through him.

Choose Jesus. He is life. He’s already chosen us, and it’s our turn to allow him to bring us to redemption through his love and sacrifice for us.
