Go ahead, clip that ad from your favorite magazine.
Take a screenshot and forward it on to the people you love. No guesswork this Christmas. You will get exactly what you want.
Imagine Christmas morning around the tree. You open your gifts, and you can truly exclaim, “It’s just what I wanted!”
No cat aprons. No toasters that do this or that. No drills, barbecue tongs, or hand-painted ties you must apologize for when around your co-workers.
Some people face an even greater conundrum: receiving only what they need instead of what they want.
Clothes. Who got those as kids? Socks, underwear, the whole works. The day you return to school, everyone knows just how your Christmas played out.
“So,” you ask, chagrined. “Tell us, please. What is the perfect Christmas gift?”
Let’s look at three passages from the New Testament.
James 1:17 says:
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
Galatians 4:4-5 says:
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
2 Corinthians 9:15 says:
“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!”
Here are the three things that make up the perfect Christmas gift:
1. It will come from the Father. All other gifts, no matter how special, are flawed by nature and cannot bring us the joy of real perfection.
2. It will be in the person of the Son whom we know as Jesus Christ.
3. It requires praise from us unto our Father in heaven.
Let’s enjoy the cat aprons, the toasters, and the barbecue tongs. Just be sure to remember that they are little more than snowy frosting on the real present of the day.
Salvation.
It is offered to us, served up in perfection to carry us through the new year.
Our best gift is from God who is perfection in himself.
