God’s Tender Heart

English Audio Version

We want to be understood.

We ask, how can someone identify with me if they haven’t walked in my shoes?

Have they climbed my mountains? Stewed in the same pot? Looked through the lens of my life?

When someone comes and trades places with me, that’s when I’ll believe they truly care about me.

“Uh-hem.” … clearing throat … “Already done. Check out the Bible.”

Hebrews 4:15-16 exposes God’s tender heart.

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Jesus walked in our shoes. He left glory and got his feet dusty with good ole Planet Earth. He spent time with humanity, suffered hunger and abuse, and then came The Cross.

What’s so important about the cross? Besides our salvation, you mean? It’s that question from earlier. When someone comes and trades places with me …

That’s exactly what happened on the cross.

Jesus stepped in front of the train for us, took the bullet meant for humanity, and learned exactly who we are.

When we cry out in agony, and we lift our voice of despair to God, he can truly say he understands. He’s been there. He knows. He’s looked through the lens of our life, and he’s seen the human condition as we experience it.

When we reach out to God, his tender heart reaches back to us.
