Taking God in Stride

English Audio Version

The Word tells us God loves us.

We all know the verse in the Book of John that tells us God loves us so much that he gave his Son to be a sacrifice for our sins.

Why then do we often feel God is wagging his finger at us and telling us that we’re bad, bad, bad?

We must learn to take God in our stride.

Think of our own children. When they misbehave, we place them in time out, take away their phones, or cut off their allowance.

We wag our finger (figuratively) and let them know we disapprove.

We haven’t stopped loving them, and they understand that. There’s a problem that needs corrected, and we are working toward that end.

That’s our relationship with God.

Hebrews 12:10-11 tells us God’s love is bringing about good for us.

“For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but [God] disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

Do our children say, “Goodie! Dad has taken away my phone.”?

Do we really think our kids love Mom sending them to time out?

God is not the bad guy here. Neither are we. We are created in his image, he understands us, and he works to bring us to perfection in him.

Just like the children we call our own.

Salvation is just the beginning. Becoming like Jesus is the plan.
