We love our children.
At Christmas, we fill the area underneath the tree.
Birthday bashes are kid extravaganzas. And as they grow, our gifts get larger and more expensive, from sports camps to cars.
There’s no end to which we won’t go to make our children’s lives better.
Stay home from work to nurse a runny nose? Check. We’ve done that.
Spend a night in a tent, camping in the cold? Been there more than once.
Build a treehouse? Let our daughter paint our nails? Even ride bikes at speeds so slow we could walk faster? Yep, that’s what we’re willing to do for our children.
So, then, what’s the ultimate Father willing to do for his children?
John 3:16 tells the heart of our Father in heaven.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
We are the rightful children of the Creator of the Universe.
We are made in his likeness, and he treasures us as his creation.
There’s no end to which God will not go to redeem the creation that is his progeny and heirs. As this verse reminds us, he’s already given his only Son that we might not perish but have eternal life.
That’s why Jesus came, and that’s why our Lord allowed himself to be crucified on Calvary, so that we might be reconnected with the One who created us as his own.
God loves us. That’s the truth of the matter, and don’t let anyone claim differently.
