Moving water has awesome power.
Experts tell us 6” can sweep a person off their feet.
A foot and a half can float a car.
Three feet can wash away a bus.
A tsunami hit the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia in late September 2018. People were gathered for a beach festival, and one attendee captured the disaster on video. The shore was calm and the day beautiful, when the wave began to overwash the festivities. Faster and faster it came, then it whipped into a frenzy and barreled through the city.
Only the sturdiest of buildings survived. The power of the water was too great. During the devastation, many people were swept away by the fist of water and hundreds died.
Life does that to us, families separated, finances devastated, and everything we thought permanent smashed as with a giant fist.
Our answer is found in Psalm 55:22.
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
Some did survive the September tsunami in Indonesia. Those in sturdy buildings or on the hillsides were above it all and lived.
God is our sturdy building. He is the hillside redoubt that gives us protection. The troubles of life will surge around our feet, but in God, we will never be moved.
The Word, sincere prayer, and a commitment to God are the tools that will ensure our survival through the worst that can come our way.
