In May 2018, Megan Markle, American television icon, married into the British royal family. The celebration was followed worldwide, with Nielsen ratings telling us 29 million people viewed the wedding.
Only 600 people were invited to the service.
That’s a small fraction of those interested enough to tune in across 15 different broadcast and cable networks. It took something special to get invited to the event of the decade.
Those with invitations in their hands must have felt privileged. They got to hobnob with the elite, to rub shoulders with the cream of the crop, to shine alongside the glitterati.
The rest of us couldn’t compete. Or . . . can we?
There’s another event coming up, one that’s even more anticipated than a royal British wedding, and those of us in Christ have our invitation in hand.
John 6:44 is our stationery confection:
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”
There’s no way we’re missing this. It’s the event of the ages. We’ve received a special invitation, and we’re allowed entrance inside.
It will be the wedding to end all weddings, when we are united with our Savior.
Everyone will want to be there.
The time is now to find room for Christ in our hearts, to plan our lives around his divine will, and to encourage others to join us in our committed relationship to the Father above.
We are invited to be one with Christ. Accepting our invitation is up to us.
