Finding Our Breath in Christ

English Audio Version

Some days we flail the air.

There’s no peace. Nothing satisfies us. We can’t make things right, and we’re certain no one can.

We envy the people who seem to have a silver spoon, and we want to blame them for all that’s wrong with us.

The truth is, there are no silver spoons. Even the wealthy have problems the poor can’t imagine. Everyone struggles with self-concept, whether our money will get us through, and how to navigate difficult social situations.

Everyone flails the air at one time or another.

We mustn’t give up, however. John 16:33 gives us an encouraging word.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Our peace comes through Jesus. He understands us because he lived as us. He became human so that he would know the human experience, and he could empathize with us.

We can accept Jesus into our hearts. It’s called salvation, and when we turn our lives over to him, he will flood us with the peace of his presence. Will the world become perfect? Hardly. But we can take heart.

He has overcome the world, and with him at our side, so will we.

Jesus is our strength, and he walks at our side.
