Watch Out, Watch Out

Balance. Stability. Remaining on our feet.

A marathon runner can’t afford to stumble. Neither can a caterer carrying a cake across the street.

We are told we must run the spiritual race set before us. Where we place our feet is important, if we want to maintain our balance in living for the Lord.

1 Peter 5:8 reminds us that we will have obstacles thrown in our path, for the devil doesn’t wish us to succeed.

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

2 Peter 2:4 cautions us that we can’t rely on our past relationship with the Lord. Our salvation must be renewed daily.

“God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment.”

John 3:16 gives us our clear path unto salvation: We need simply believe in Christ to start the race.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 6:23 shows both sides of the faith coin. We must realize our eternal reward is one side or the other. There is no in between.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

No one is allowed to sit on the sidelines. Being physically fit is not a requirement, either. This is a spiritual race, run through faith in Christ, immersion in the Word of God, and active prayer. When we devote ourselves to those activities, we will become spiritual triathletes for our God and King.

Finding Christ is the starting point. Our spiritual race is run every day we are alive.

Excerpt of the Day

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
