Kittens are cute.
So are puppies.
Search kitten or puppy videos on the Internet, and your “adorable” gene will be tweaked into overload!
Rescuing abandoned puppies? Check. You will find them.
Kittens chasing string? Absolutely. Get ready to laugh aloud.
You can even find videos of kittens and puppies together, getting along like brothers and sisters … and that’s a good segue to today’s message.
Hebrews 13:1-3 gives us three benchmarks for showing brotherly (and sisterly) love to the people who walk this life with us.
“Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.”
Benchmark No. 1: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers.”
That new family in church? Invite them over for a cookout. Or to Sunday lunch. Or for a trip to the beach … there’s no end to your options.
Benchmark No. 2: “Remember those who are in prison.”
Join a prison ministry … or just send a card … call someone … let them know they are not forgotten.
Benchmark No. 3: “Remember those who are … mistreated.”
The boy in ragged shoes, the homeless man at the stoplight, the unwed mother who’s still in high school. They deserve your love, care, and help, also.
See, here’s the thing: We’re all puppies and kittens in this basket we call life. We must get along or life will fall apart. So, let’s rescue those that are wandering, laugh with them when we can, and invite them into the family of God.
When we show brotherly love, our world becomes a better place to live.
