Our Faithful Family

What does it mean to be faithful?

Merriam-Webster says it this way:

— steadfast in affection or allegiance

Webster’s also adds this for clarification: LOYAL (and yes, the caps are Webster’s).

So, what does it mean to be faithful in our family?

1. We are steadfast. We stick to each other. We don’t let our family run into danger – even of their own making – without running into danger with them.

2. We show them affection. This might be harder, because sometimes we don’t like our family. Nevertheless, we must show them a level of caring and concern simply because they are family.

3. We are to exhibit allegiance. Stand by their side. Defend them when they are attacked. Take on their enemies as if they are ours. We are a team player.

Now let’s look at Exodus 20:12 from the Word of God:

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”

What land have you been given? Your job? Your spouse? Your children? Your home? Your friends? These are the land you have been given, your Promised Land, the life in which you dwell. How you treat your family begins with how you honor your parents. Treat them with respect, stand by their side, and show them affection. Your LOYALTY will trickle down to each member of your family.

Here’s one other benefit from honoring your parents and your family. Your attitude will bleed over into your Christian walk, also.

Family. Your parents. Your siblings. Also, your fellow Christians who walk at your side.

Be steadfast. Show them affection. Practice allegiance. Exemplify LOYALTY.

It’s time to up our game. Are you a team player? Now’s your time to decide.
