4 Levels of Integrity

What is integrity?

Merriam-Webster tells us integrity means we adhere to a code of moral or artistic values. It can also mean something is complete. It hasn’t been divided up.

So, when we are undivided in focus or in intent, we have integrity. When we are the same at home as in public, treat even our pets kindly, and share the ice cream even when it’s the last scoop, we have integrity.

We don’t break the rules just because we think no one is watching. We maintain our values even in secret.

Here is integrity as espoused in Malachi 2:6:

“The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.”

This verse describes the person who truly walks after the way of God. Let’s break it into the 4 levels of integrity that God expects from us.

Our 1st Level of Integrity:

“The law of truth was in his mouth.” When we speak the truth at all times, when honesty is one of our core values, the Lord finds pleasure in us.

Our 2nd Level of Integrity:

“Iniquity was not found in his lips.” Iniquity can be rephrased as wickedness, injustice, and immorality. Don’t be involved. Just don’t.

Our 3rd Level of Integrity:

“He walked with me in peace and equity.” God expects us to be fair and to treat others as we wish to be treated. Peace means to live in harmony. Equity is justice, fairness, and impartiality.

Our 4th Level of Integrity:

“He did turn many away from iniquity.” Not only does the man or woman of integrity avoid iniquity (wickedness, injustice, and immorality) in themselves, they work to guide others to a better life.

Now for the big question. Are you a person of integrity? How do your actions stack up? Each of these levels of integrity reflect actions, not intent. It’s what you do that tells the integrity of who you are.

Let’s walk with God. He will guide us to greater levels of integrity in him.
