When children hurt, we often hurt with them.
We want to take their pain. After all, how can they deserve to suffer? We want to help them to the other side of what troubles them.
When Holly Christensen, a former oncology nurse, learned her friend’s young daughter was diagnosed with cancer, she created a yarn “Rapunzel” wig, bright yellow interwoven with cloth flowers and decorations, for her to wear.
The wig made such a difference that Christensen started The Magic Yarn Project to provide princess wigs to children undergoing chemotherapy or other treatments for cancer.
Lamentations 3:22 says:
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.”
When we show kindness to those suffering, we have become the hand of the Lord unto them. A yarn wig? Yeah, that’s all it takes sometimes.
Keep your eyes open. Look for ways to help those around you. When the good you do is all about them and never about you, you have taken on the mantle of Christ. When we treat others as we would wish to be treated, we understand the nature of Jesus and the love he showed unto humanity.
What yarn wig do you have to offer? Now’s your time. Others need you today.
