What We Give Up

There are times when we need to receive a kick in the backside to move us in the right direction.

Miranda MacLean’s neighbor, Jim, faced that moment when he bumped into a young man he used to work with.

Used to, because the Brutus, Michigan, young man hadn’t worked in some time, and he had three children and a wife to support.

Jim had been on the fence for some time about retiring, and the next day, he turned in his resignation and recommended the young man as his replacement. The company took up Jim’s suggestion and hired the young man, and he still works there today.

What has God been dealing with you about? Teaching that Sunday school class? Starting a children’s ministry? Volunteering at a downtown mission?

Philippians 1:6 is our kickstarter verse:

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

You’re a Christian. That’s great, but it’s not everything. God has a work for you to do. It started at salvation, but it isn’t complete until you stand before God and worship at his throne.

So, jump off. Get started. Fire up the boiler and get the train going down the tracks. God has given you inspiration. Now’s the time to step up into the rest of your life.
