4 Facts About Good Friends

English Audio Version

A fair-weather friend is fun for a while.

So long as we have money or provide them a benefit, they will spend time with us.

We may even feel we can depend on them in harsh situations, that is, until things begin to go south, and we find they are no longer there.

Good friends make our lives better. They also stick around when circumstances become brittle. They don’t worry that our life might shatter, and they will need to help pick up the pieces.

They want to be there for us.

The Bible tells us 4 Facts About Good Friends.

Proverbs 17:17 says a good friend will stick around when hard times strike.

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

Proverbs 27:17 says a good friend will bring out the best in us.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”

Proverbs 12:26 says a good friend will have our best interests at heart.

“One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.”

Job 16:21 in the Good News Translation says a good friend will hold us up in prayer before the almighty God.

“I want someone to plead with God for me, as one pleads for a friend.”

Now’s the time to step back and look at the people around you. Who hears your secrets? Who has your back? Who do you spend more time with than any other?

Let’s recap our 4 facts about good friends.

  • Do they call when life falters?
  • Are you better when you are with them?
  • Do they steer you to good choices?
  • Have they told you they remembered you in prayer?

In turn, we must provide the same qualities to those who consider us friends. When we treat each other with care, we allow God to draw us closer than before.

Godly friends are a gift to be treasured. Let’s be one in return.
