No one would play rock music for a bedtime song.
Dracula is the last thing we want our children to see before they drift off to sleep. They’d awaken with nightmares, crying to be held in the dark.
We want to sing sweet words to send them to sleep. We want to tell endearing stories, with happy endings that build them up.
We push aside the real world for a time, because horror stories don’t make for a good night’s sleep.
Ephesians 4:29 tells us we should practice the same skill with our fellow Christians.
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
What helps us become better stewards of Christ? What’s good for building up our fellow Christians? Those are the stories we should tell.
Let’s talk about the good God has placed in our lives, the blessings that have come our way.
- Our children and grandchildren.
- The praise report we heard in Sunday school.
- An answered prayer.
- A missionary’s exciting news.
- The verse we read that impacted our life.
- How our life has been changed by living 100 percent for Jesus.
But that’s not the real world, some might say. As Christians, the world becomes what we dwell on. Even the unsaved know that. Let’s keep our thoughts on Jesus, and soon Jesus will be all we have in our thoughts.
Let’s share Jesus with those around us, every bit of him, every day.
