Tow Truck Living

English Audio Version

So what good’s a tow truck?

They’re not especially comfortable to ride in, and they’re very inconvenient to drive.

They cost a boatload of money.

And the gas they burn?  Wowser! The fuel gauge drops a mile a minute.

Yet, when we need that tow truck, it’s the best thing in the world.

Several years ago, a truck was parked on the beach on Texas’ coast. The day was beautiful, and a man played with his two small children in the surf.

Before he realized it, the tide meandered in, and the surf swallowed his back wheels. When he tried to leave, his truck was stuck, truly stuck.

Two other trucks tried to pull him free, and each time, the ropes broke. It took the steady tug of a tow truck, with its massive winch and sturdy wheels, to drag the man’s truck from the destruction of the waves.

That’s our job as Christians, to be that tow truck that rescues people from the destructive waves of a rising sea.

James 5:16 tells us how we do it.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

That father on that Galveston beach had to get on his cell phone and call for aid. He had to admit he’d been foolish and let his wheels bog down in the sand. That’s when he was rescued.

We call on our fellow Christians in a similar way. We admit our foolishness, and our combined prayers pull us from the destruction that surrounds us.

Christian living isn’t about just us. We depend on all of us to weather the storms of life.
