Not everyone can be the team captain.
Or pilot the ship or come in first place.
The winner of a beauty pageant might stand in triumph before the crowd, but she didn’t get there alone. Dressmakers, makeup crews, and coaches spent hours creating the perfect performance.
If any of the support team had faltered on the job, the contest might have had a different outcome.
Take a Formula One race. The driver is the master of the track. Without him or her, the championship podium finish would be pie in the sky. Yet, equally important is the pit crew that can change a tire in seconds, refuel as the car rolls in and rolls out, and shave seconds off the time spent in the pit.
It doesn’t matter who is support and who stands on the podium. Both are vital to the game. They win together.
1 Corinthians 3:8 tells us:
“He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.”
Maybe you sing in the choir, and you look longingly at the soloist. The truth is, you are both important.
The pastor gets his picture on the sign outside, while you teach the toddlers. Each job is vital to the church.
You give until it hurts, and the church financial committee spends it and more to redecorate the women’s facilities. Parents forget to thank you for the hours you spend in the nursery. Does anyone even notice the time you invest in improving the church flowerbeds?
We’re on the same team, working for the same goal. One plants, and the other waters. Our reward comes from God, and he sees us as important, no matter the job we do.
Everyone has a place on God’s team. We perform his will as one.
