Thinking Outside the Box

English Audio Version

We enjoy people who have a similar outlook on life.

If gardening is our forte, then garden shows are a delight. We can strike up conversations about mutual interests, and we’ll feel our day is well spent.

Car guys are the same. Open the engine bay of any vehicle, and they can strike up a discussion on pistons, compression, and crankshafts without knowing each other’s name.

It’s why we gather in churches. Those are our spiritual compadres. They’re the ones who believe in a similar manner, understand us when we ask for prayer, and support our desire to follow Christ.

It’s too easy, however, to become insular in our exclusiveness. The gardener dismisses the person who enjoys shopping more than maintaining beds of flowers. The car guy mocks the hybrid driver. The Christian lifts a nose at unbelievers on the street.

Colossians 4:5 tells us to beware.

“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.”

Gathering together with people of like faith is vital to a healthy Christian walk. That’s not, however, what our Christian walk is about. We’ve been given a job to do. We’re to connect with those who are lost and share the gospel with them.

We are to think outside of our church walls and find ways to connect with those who don’t know Christ. It’s our duty. It’s the Great Commission given to us by our Lord.

Christ is our example, and he ministered to the lost and those in need. We are to do the same.
