In a Hollywood movie several years ago, a nobleman was described as a man who thinks one thing and says another.
In other words, we say what a person wants to hear, no matter how we really feel.
Ah, we think. A nobleman is a politician, all things to all people, even if he contradicts himself. He says what’s pertinent to the situation, and that’s what drives his interactions with others.
Is it possible for us to live as political Christians? Noblemen for Christ, using Hollywood’s definition?
1 Peter 1:22 gives us another definition of a nobleman.
“Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.”
There are two vital steps to becoming a Christian nobleman.
One, we must purify our souls. How? By our obedience to the truth as presented in the Bible, which is God’s Holy Word.
Two, we must love our Christian brothers and sisters earnestly. We can only do this from a pure heart, one that is cleansed of antipathy and disregard for others.
We can’t afford to fake our love for our fellow sojourners on the road to heaven. Our truth is in our heart, and it always comes out.
Honesty is still our best policy, and people will see our love flow from our heart.
