We need to be careful when we post on social media.
President Trump has snagged an ear or two with his rampant comments on Twitter.
Charlie Sheen is infamous for posting his home number to the world rather than to his friend.
When our words slip away from us, they can be difficult to recall.
Colossians 4:6 reminds us to be careful in everything we say:
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”
Our salt is our common sense, and we can never use too much when we have something we think needs to be said.
What are the hot-button words of the moment? The delicate social situations? The background of the group we are with? We speak to a child differently than we speak to an adult, and we should show respect to someone of a different ethnic background.
We should pay attention to whom we’re speaking before we let our words out. When our words are kind in every situation, we need have no fear of the things we’ve said.
Christ can be our filter. If we speak in a way that shows respect for him, no one will fault what we say.
