We’ve all faced the disappointment of love.
Our first crush who didn’t even know we were alive.
Perhaps it was a media star, an actor or a musician. If they knew how much we loved them… they’d return our love... wouldn’t they?
So we write, email, or text them. We spread our love on Twitter. We start a fan Facebook page.
It takes a long time to accept that they don’t even know (or care) that we’re out there.
True love is more than a crush. It’s intimate, reciprocated, and lifts us up. We feel better about ourselves when we’re loved in return.
The other thing about true love is that it never lets us down. It’s unfailing, cannot be washed away, and we can rely on it forever.
Solomon 8:7 sings that love is better than all the wealth in the world.
“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised.”
Psalm 143:8 tells us that our loved ones trust us to lead them, for they will follow wherever we go.
“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”
Proverbs 3:3-4 desires us to make love our primary goal, for in it, we will gain respect and a good name from all we meet.
“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.”
1 John 4:16 is our confirmation that God first loved us, and his love is forever and immovable. We are filled with his love, if we live in him.
“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
Teenage crushes, pop stars, and movie idols can’t give us what we truly need. We find real love through the Father. When he fills us up, we will overflow onto everyone we meet.
Let’s look for love in all the right places. We can start with our heavenly Father.
