Finding Strength in Love

The muscle-bound weightlifter isn’t always the strongest among us.

No matter how packed our bank book is, there’s not enough to cover a broken heart.

We can boast of our accomplishments, but when we find ourselves alone in the middle of the night, our pillow still drips with our tears.

Our true strength comes from the heart. We find it in our emotional connection with other people. We empower our love with the message of Christ.

He died for us. How can anything we do for others be too much for us to offer?

Romans 13:8 says that in love, we have done all that’s required of the Law of Moses, for in love, we want to do all that’s required of the Law of Moses:

“Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 reveals the intimacy and trustworthiness of love, for in it, we become a source of comfort to everyone we meet:

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.”

1 Corinthians 13:2 cautions us that the mighty works of the prophets are no substitute for showing caring and compassion to those around us:

“And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”

1 Corinthians 16:14 wraps up our Christian purpose in nine words:

“Let all that you do be done in love.”

Everything. Talking to our children… even when they’ve wrecked the family car. Accepting criticism from our boss… even when the fault was someone else’s. Cleaning up the mess… left by our spouse.

Do all that you do in love. That. Means. Everything.

When Jesus flows through us, so will his love and compassion for all humankind.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
