Surround Sound Communication

Life is lived in surround sound.

  • Car stereos blast from multiple speakers.
  • Headphones give us amazing realism.
  • The Bose company advertises single box speakers that mimic sound truer to life than life itself.

Our earthly ears are attuned to hear things from every angle: front, back, left, and right. That’s how we’re able to move out of the path of an oncoming bicycle we haven’t even seen. It’s also how we pick out the exact location of a person speaking in a crowd or find our cell phone when it rings.

God speaks to us in surround sound. He doesn’t blast his voice at us or try to mimic something that isn’t him. He comes to us with the whisper of a voice offering peace and security in him.

We have to learn how to listen.

We can’t afford to mishear God’s words, either. 1 Corinthians 12:3 makes it clear God won’t speak lies unto us. If we hear whispers that lead us astray from the deity of the Christ, then we have a faulty surround sound system. Our channels are adjusted incorrectly, and we’re not picking up the true message.

What’s God's true message? Jesus is the Lord of all creation; he’s the redeeming Christ; and he’s the peace given unto the believer.

The Bose company may mimic life itself, but God speaks life through his Son, Jesus Christ, and he does it in surround sound.

It’s up to us to listen.

Let’s crank up the music. If God is our source, all we’ll hear is the sound of his voice.
