“A single word or action can bring down the mightiest and devastate someone emotionally and physically. Choose your words and actions with care.”
(Psalm 19:14 ESV)
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
The tongue is mightier than the sword.
That’s not Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s original quote from 1839, but it certainly fits today’s quick-moving and pervasive social media situation.
What we say can do more damage than an entire army of well-outfitted soldiers. One tweet. One post. One inappropriate image. We can damage people emotionally, undermine business dealings, or divide loyalties to bring countries to the brink of war.
Our gauge for what’s acceptable must be the Word of God. Christ is our rock and our redeemer. In our thoughts, in our quiet time, and with our voice in front of others, we must be pure in what we say and do.
It’s the soft word that counts when we want to be kind to those around us.
