“To dwell on your regrets is to be lodged in the past.”
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.
(Philippians 3:13-15 ESV)
Life is like a long hallway. Each morning, the door to yesterday closes behind us, and we can never open it up or walk through it again.
We can remember what’s behind that door, but it’s inaccessible. Worrying about it won’t allow us access to it. If we worry it like a dog with a bone, we’ll never move forward in life, and we’ll never find the success God intends for us to have.
Paul says we must forget what lies behind and strain forward to what lies ahead. In other words, it’s the future that holds our key to success. We won’t find it in the past, no matter how much we chew that old bone.
