The Gift of Bread

English Audio Version

We all like to eat.

It’s more than that. We need to eat.

If we don’t eat, we will die. Seriously. Starvation happens all the time.

Here’s the thing. Bread isn’t free. We cannot afford to feel entitled to what we haven’t earned, and that’s from the Word of God.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 says our bread is conditional on the work we’ve completed.

“For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.”

Yup, that’s what it says. No work = no eat.

To clarify this stern declaration, intentional laziness is not of God. He doesn’t approve, nor will he condone an able-bodied person not doing their share.

If you can and don’t, then no one else is obligated to feed you.

That’s right out of the Word of God, so buck up and get busy. God has work for you to do.

Our gift of bread is our due when we jump in to get the job done.
