Working for Our Blessings

English Audio Version

We shall receive showers of blessings.

Who-ee! It’s like the lottery. Stuff comes our way – lots of it – and all we need to do is wait for it to arrive.

WRONG! That’s not what the Bible says. Not even close.

Let’s look at how God’s blessings really come to us.

Genesis 2:3 starts off with the Big Guy. (Note: He had to rest from all his work.)

“So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.”

Deuteronomy 28:12 reminds us God blesses our hard work, not our sofa-bound dreams.

“The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”

2 Chronicles 15:7 tells us preparation is vital if we want to receive good blessings from God.

“But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.”

John 4:34 shows us that Jesus worked for his goals to become reality.

“Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.’ ”

1 Corinthians 15:58 says we mustn’t slow down in doing the work God requires of us.

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

The blessings of God aren’t the stuff of fairy tales. We don’t wake up one day to a bounty of presents filling our house. The financial houses of the world won’t automatically funnel their ill-gotten gains into our checking account.

Here’s a list of how we can get the blessings of God:

  • We work.
  • God blesses us.

It’s as simple as that. Now’s our time to prepare to receive the blessings of God. Here’s how.

1. Get training. Go to school. Consult successful people already in the business.

2. Practice at what we want to do. Volunteer. Try a work-study program.

3. Be in it for the long haul. Success builds on hard work.

Today’s your day in God. Your future begins now.
