The lap of luxury.
It’s where we all want to be. However, luxury means different things to different people.
For some, it means having as little as possible. Then we don’t have to maintain all the “stuff.”
For others, it means time to pursue our favorite leisure activity, even if it’s no more than babysitting our grandchildren.
Some people need money in the bank to feel like they are surrounded by luxury, no matter how luxurious their charge-card life.
It takes a least a measure of wealth to have any of these.
Two passages in Proverbs give us guarantees on how we can achieve the wealth we need to live in our version of the lap of luxury.
Proverbs 3:9-10 says to put the Lord first.
“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.”
We can’t spend everything in our pursuit of luxury. We keep some back. Give a portion to God and invest part. It will change our way of thinking in how we manage our money.
Proverbs 13:11 tells us we must add in an equal measure of hard work.
“Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.”
God is not a leprechaun or a magic genie. That’s not how he provides for his children. Few people who win the lottery retain their winnings over time. Those who accumulate their wealth over years have learned to manage it well.
Your life of luxury is waiting on you. It’s not a quick fix, however. You will have to work for it. It happens a little at a time as you learn to manage what God gives you today.
What we turn over to God becomes a shower of blessing back onto us.
