Money is a fact of life.
We must have it. There are things we cannot do, a standard of living we cannot maintain, without access to cash.
Even to live simply, our goods and services must come from somewhere. The bills must be paid.
The Bible gives us 5 Characteristics of Financial Success.
Our first characteristic is found in Philippians 4:19.
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Jesus is the source of what we need, not the banking institutions of the world.
Our second characteristic is in Malachi 3:10.
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
Our success is a blessing, not a right. Good things come from God.
Our third characteristic is from 1 Timothy 6:10.
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”
Money, wealth, and luxury cannot be more important to us than following Jesus and providing for our fellow Christians.
We find our fourth characteristic in Acts 20:35.
“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
Sharing our good gifts from God is essential to our proper alignment with his will.
Finally, our fifth and final characteristic comes from Proverbs 22:7.
“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.”
Easy credit isn’t a substitute for following God’s financial rules.
Money isn’t evil. Neither is living well. It’s when we think our success flows from our hands rather than from God’s that we walk a dangerous line.
Let’s summarize today’s teaching.
1. God is our supplier.
2. Gratitude flows to the Father.
3. Compassion, not money, is God’s way.
4. We are to share our financial surplus.
5. There are no shortcuts to success in God.
Let’s get out there. Financial success is waiting on us. Let’s take hold of it today.
We are winners in Christ when we follow the life he lived.
