Taste that the Lord Is Good

A cooking show host from Iowa describes many of his cooking ingredients with an unusual word.

Flavor.

Butter isn’t just fat, it’s flavor.

That coconut topping? Flavor. Cinnamon, nutmeg, salt … you’ve got it. He calls them flavor.

Even the caramelized bits on the roast or those left in the pan … flavor. Scrape them out, add them to your dish, because they add flavor.

Where is flavor found in our walk with Jesus?

Psalm 34:4–5, 8 gives us our clue:

“I sought the LORD, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!”

A dash of seeking the Lord. Flavor!

He answers and delivers us. More flavor!

We look to Him … our experiences in our walk with Jesus become the caramelized bits of life that add flavor to our relationship with Him!

As the passage says: “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!”

Certainly, a good cook can prepare a no-heat, no-fire meal, but the best dining experience is fired in the furnace of a hot oven and over the flames of an open fire. That’s when the caramelization of life’s experiences reveals the true goodness of God.

Take your refuge in Christ. He wants to be good to you.
