Living a Rube Goldberg Life with Jesus

Rube Goldberg is an American cartoonist with a machine named after him.

Well, not an actual machine, but an idea behind a machine. A Rube Goldberg machine is designed to do something very simple in the most complicated way possible.

Yet, amid the complexity, we can trust each step to take us to a foregone conclusion. No matter how complicated, we know the result ahead of time.

Like our life with Christ.

We already know the end. All the complicated, crazy things that come in the middle, well, they are the Rube Goldberg part of life.

How can we trust that relationship issues, financial trauma, and personal catastrophe won’t deflect us from our relationship with God?

Romans 8:28 assures of the answer:

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”

In a Rube Goldberg machine, a traveling marble might cause a balanced spoon to trigger a cascade of events, with a spinning ballerina doll, a falling domino, and a flashing light. But that marble will reach its destination.

We are that marble traveling on God’s path. We might endure a financial meltdown, even survive a divorce, but one thing we can trust is that they are only the complications surrounding the truth found in God’s Word.

For those called by God, all things work together for good.

That’s our Rube Goldberg life in a nutshell. When we walk with Jesus, even the crazy things that make our head spin cannot divert us from the foregone conclusion revealed in the Word. We are saved, have a relationship with Jesus, and can look forward to eternity in Heaven with our Lord.
