Pain – not our friend.
Or is it? What if we never knew pain? What would our life be like?
We would bump into sharp objects and not know until we grew weak with loss of blood.
Hot or cold items would damage our skin, compromising our natural defense against infection.
We wouldn’t realize we had appendicitis, a stomach ulcer, or a broken ankle.
Jesus knew this. It’s why he stepped up to the cross. He knew his pain would enable us to recognize our faults and flaws and live a better life in him.
Colossians 1:10 says:
“So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
Here are four takeaways from this verse:
Takeaway No. 1:
We are to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.
The cross wipes away our sin. We are made worthy through the salvation of Christ.
Takeaway No. 2:
We are to be fully pleasing to him.
Jesus provided the supreme sacrifice. How can we not choose to give up those things that get in the way of our Christian walk?
Takeaway No. 3:
We are to bear fruit in every good work.
Our fruit is listed in the Bible: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Takeaway No. 4:
We are to increase in the knowledge of God.
This takes time in the Word and interaction with other Christians. We must be constantly involved in the Christian side of our life.
Jesus died for you so you can live for him. Now’s your time. Place your faith in him today.
