Football is an American sport.
“What?!?” some people across the world might cry. “Not only for Americans!”
Yet, to Americans, soccer hardly comes into play. When our American team kicks that pigskin through the arms of an upright goalpost, we stand and cheer as if the world were on fire, and our team is lighting the flame.
That’s the excitement that sets God on fire when he watches us proclaim his glory and make a goal for him.
Luke 4:18-19 gives us 5 goalposts that tell the world we are on fire with a full measure of God’s anointing.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
There are 5 ways we can tell the Spirit of the Lord is on our life.
Goalpost No. 1:
He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
Are we doing that? We will if we are on fire for God.
Let’s crank up our loudspeaker for the Lord so the entire world can hear.
Goalpost No. 2:
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives.
What holds people in thrall? Debt? Drugs? Relationships?
Our assignment is to proclaim God’s power over each of these.
Goalpost No. 3:
He has sent me to proclaim recovery of sight to the blind.
Who is sick among us? Who suffers needlessly? Who is in need of the Master’s healing?
The time for prayer is now, and our prayers are stronger in unison.
Goalpost No. 4:
He has sent me to set at liberty those who are oppressed.
Oppression is a trick of the devil. It’s very real, but it’s from the devil.
We must throw it off, and we do that with the overcoming power of Christ our Redeemer.
Goalpost No. 5:
We proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.
WE ARE NOT DEFEATED!
THE DEVIL HAS NO POWER OVER US!
JESUS IS MASTER OVER ALL CREATION AND THAT MEANS US!
What goal do you need to achieve? What impossible standard looms before you? What do you need to surmount so the world will know you’re on fire for our Holy God?
When we’ve mastered God’s goalposts, the world will know God’s spirit is upon everything we do, say, and achieve.
We become winners when we run on God’s team.
