Moving across the country is the best way to clean house.
I mean really clean house, not the dusting and vacuuming most of us think about. I’m talking closets, the backs of drawers, and deep inside the nooks and crannies of the attic and garage.
Stuff gets lost in there, we don’t remember we have it, and how did it get in there in the first place?
It’s what we don’t want to pack that we don’t mind tossing in the garbage.
Yet there are things we wouldn’t think of disposing of. We wouldn’t give them away, donate them to a charity, or toss them in the garbage. They hold value to us, often sentimental and dear.
What do we value as Christians? In our walk with the Lord, what’s the thing we’ve received from him that’s too important to consider leaving behind?
1 Timothy 4:14 reveals our special gifts, the treasures we’ve received from God that we must hang onto at any cost.
“Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you.”
What has God given you during your time with him?
The gift of Prophecy? Has the Lord used you to direct someone’s future down a better path?
Or maybe you have Wisdom. You can see through situations, and you don’t get distracted by needless details.
Then there’s Knowledge. You have a mastery of the Word, and you can guide others with directions from the Scriptures.
And what about Healings, Tongues, and Interpretation of Tongues?
Maybe your Faith is where you excel. If we lose that, we’ve lost all else. None of the other gifts can function without a strong measure of Faith.
God has given each of us one gift that’s stronger than all others. It’s our special gift, the one bequeathed to us through prayer and dedication to God the Father. Don’t turn loose of it or let it get tossed out when you’re cleaning house.
Hold on to your gift. It’s the most valuable thing you’ve got.
The more we use our gift of the Spirit, the stronger it will become.
