The good stuff always takes time.
A yummy cake, it must bake for an hour or more. If we pull it out too early, it will be runny inside, and no one will enjoy it.
Or building a new house. It can take half a year or even more for something of a custom design. The better we make it, the longer to finish it.
Then there’s a relationship. Who would marry someone at a first meeting? We wouldn’t know if we were compatible, enjoyed mutual interests, or even liked each other. Look at Hollywood. Quick marriages are the rage, and they rarely last.
So how long would you have to wait to rule as a king? In England, Prince Charles grew up first in line for the throne. As of 2018, the Queen was alive and well, and Charles had become an old man.
Sometimes we must wait for the good stuff to come to us.
Acts 1:4-5 tells us we should bide our time and wait for something very special.
“And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, ‘You heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.’ ”
Sometimes God needs us to hold off on jumping into his work. We’re not ready. He has more for us. He wants us totally prepared, not with half our armor still on the shelf, while we head heedlessly into battle.
We need to be equipped by the hand of the Spirit, with the power of the Spirit, and under the protection of the Spirit so that every battle we fight will be won in Jesus’ name.
The Holy Spirit is the power that enables us to fight for our Lord.
