Our Feet in the Sand

English Audio Version

Pick up a magazine.

Any magazine, one filled with hot rods, or wedding dresses, or even photo spreads of exotic destinations.

Turn the pages and see what catches your eye.

If we’re a gear head, seeing the latest modifications for going fast in a favorite machine will get our heart pumping.

A prospective bride will imagine walking down the aisle in every dress she sees.

How many of us could resist imagining riding an elephant, visiting the pyramids, or that hammock gently swaying under a palm tree?

But what’s better, much better, is to be there, to visit a car show, to try on the dress, to sink our feet in the sand.

John 1:14 words it this way:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Up to this time, God was a mysterious, invisible being somewhere in the sky. Moses had seen him, and maybe one or two others, but not the regular people. They were flipping through a magazine (the Torah), imagining the magnificence of God, and thinking they knew his glory.

Then Jesus stepped into their lives. He brought a reality of miracles, spiritual gifts, and personal concern that had been lacking before.

Humanity saw God in a new way, as a person who cared for them, and as a friend who walked at their side.

Their hope became real. They placed their feet in the sand and knew they were in the presence of God. They became different because they had met the Savior of humanity, and they began to change their world.

The reality of knowing Jesus changes us in every possible way.
