What does it mean to dream small?
Josh Wilson’s 2018 lyrics to his song Dream Small tell us it’s the simple moments that change the world.
Essentially, we can’t dream big until we’ve learned to dream small.
Luke 16:10-11 goes even further. God won’t bless us with a big dream until we’ve learned to be responsible with the little one we already have.
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?”
In Josh Wilson’s song we learn that we should live one day at a time, live well, love God and others as ourselves, and find little ways to show God’s love to others.
When we get a handle on that, God will see that we’re ready to step up our game. We’ll have prepared a firm foundation for building our bigger edifice. Our bigger dream will stand firm and true because we’ve established it on the little things we’ve learned to do right.
In Success-Speak: The Art of Maximizing Your Potential Through What You Say, Steven Dunn says, “As Christians . . . if we follow the precepts of Christ nine times out of ten, it’s that tenth time that will ruin our Christian witness.”
Let’s dream big, but let’s not forget that we must first dream small.
Our big dream in Christ is built on the small accomplishments we successfully complete for him.
