Life is a piñata bonanza.
It’s filled with good things, and they’re hanging in full view just out of our reach. We can taste the sweetness of all that’s inside.
Then we’re blindfolded, twirled round and round, given a big stick, and told to go for it. We can have all the goodies if we can whack the brightly colored ball hard enough.
Blindfolded.
With our sense of balance out of kilter.
All the while disoriented by the excited crowd that plans to swoop in and grab the candy before we can pull off our blindfold.
It’s wildly chaotic and feels more like luck than skill. How is it fair? We’re the one with the stick. We deserve the prize . . . if we can manage to land our hit in the first place.
There’s a better way than taking a chance on a piñata bonanza. James 3:17 gives us an improved way to attack life.
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”
We can navigate toward our goal with the wisdom of the Lord. We don’t need to swing wildly at what we hope to achieve. The sweet things of life will come to us when we live a pure life, are peaceable toward other, speak in a gentle manner, reason out the best path to take, show mercy with others’ faults, let love rule, and are honest and fair.
We’ll have figured out life, and things will begin to go our way, honestly, fairly, and without relying on blind luck.
With God’s wisdom as our foundation, our edifice will reach into the heavens.
