The Choice Fruit

English Audio Version

Supermarkets are a veritable smorgasbord of delights.

Anytime of the year we can select almost anything from around the world. Pineapples in winter, bananas flown in daily, and fresh produce year-round.

Our choices are rarely poor, yet even in the plenty, we must select carefully if we want the firmest, longest-lasting food in our basket.

Jesus came to earth to offer salvation unto mankind. There were thousands of people he could have chosen to labor at his side, people of good background, generous spirit, and financial means. Yet, he chose rough-mannered fishermen to minister his gospel to the world.

John 15:16 tells how Jesus explained it:

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

Jesus chose the best fruit, ones that were well-suited to his purpose. Were they perfect? No. Did they make mistakes, argue among themselves, and even betray the Master? Yes. Yet each disciple was selected for the job Jesus needed him to do.

The disciples were the choice fruit among the world to spread the Good News to all creation.

Never doubt God’s reasoning in choosing you for the purpose he asks you to perform. When the Father points to you, he could choose anyone, but he knows they cannot do the job he’s asked of you.

We are God’s choice fruit to perform the tasks he’s set us to.
