Chain of Command

English Audio Version

A soldier knows how it’s done. When an order’s given, you just do it. The responsibility, the decision, the choice isn’t yours.

Power and authority flow from the top down, even if we don’t agree. Like a pyramid, the top is very small, and there’s only room for one person to rule it all.

Even Jesus accepted that he wasn’t at the top of the power pyramid.

John 14:31 reveals his acceptance of God as the ultimate source:

“But I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.”

We can pull three truths from this verse.

Truth No. 1:

God is the ultimate decision maker. His word is final. We can’t argue with him, because there’s only one place at the top of the spiritual power structure, and he’s not giving it over to us.

Truth No. 2:

Our acceptance of God’s authority reveals his love through us and unto the world. When we adhere to the instructions of God as revealed in the Bible, unbelievers will see the hand of God operating through us and know us for our Christ-like lives.

Truth No. 3:

We need to get off our seat, onto our feet, and into the street. We can proclaim the power of God all we want, but until we take the truth of Christ into the world and share it with the hurting and needy, we haven’t given to God the control over our lives that he demands and deserves.

We are Christian soldiers marching as to war. Our enemy is evil, darkness, hunger, loneliness, and the unredeemed. God leads us forward, and he is our commanding officer. We must accept his authority and get on with sharing his truth with the world.

We belong to Christ when we give him all of us.

Excerpt of the Day

A promise to the devil can be laughed off when we have Jesus standing at our side. A promise from the devil is worthless, and should be laughed off even faster.
