Glitter catches our eye.
We don’t want the car with the dull paint. If the outside doesn’t glisten, what does that say about the rest?
A unkept yard will dissuade us from visiting an open house, no matter how pretty the pictures of the inside appear.
Do we truly want that job, if we must drive through a risky part of town? Is it worth the extra pay?
If we want to be associated with the fine things of life, to take advantage of the best opportunities, or to hire the best in our place of employment, we must polish ourselves to the highest shine possible. We must get the car waxed, call a lawn maintenance team, and beef up our security so that we can put on our best face.
Proverbs 22:29 tells us that being at our best will place us before the rich and influential movers and shakers of the world.
“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”
How do we present ourselves at our best? Get a haircut. Practice greeting others in front of a mirror. Take that college class. Write a good resume. Practice, practice, practice what you want to be good at.
When we trust the hand of Christ, he will lead us into a better future than we ever thought possible.
