No one wants to spend their years in prison.
When the weather turns bad, we get stir-crazy when we can’t go out.
Claustrophobia, the fear of enclosed spaces, is very real for many people.
Trapped in a hated job, a difficult relationship, or a pricy mortgage, we want to throw it off and find the release of freedom.
That’s what we get from Christ, our spiritual chains cast aside, and the freedom to cast off the religious laws of the past.
Galatians 5:13 reminds us to take care. Our freedom can become our downfall.
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”
There’s a difference in being free to indulge ourselves and being free to serve others. If our freedom is only about ourselves, it’s wasted on hedonism and self-gratification.
Let’s claim our freedom in Christ to make the lives of those around us better than they were before. It’s what Christ would do, and it’s what he did while he lived on the earth.
Jesus casts our chains aside so that we have the freedom to do for others in the name of Christ, our Lord.
