Conversation is all about using words to get our meaning across. We speak for a time, and then we allow someone else the privilege. We share information, and we’re each the wiser for it.
The best speakers are those who can be succinct. They get the most information across in the fewest spoken phrases. Their words have the power to move people, and others will stop what they are doing and listen.
Their words hit us like a fist, and we are changed in our outlook and attitude. We become different, hopefully better, because we’ve taken time to pay attention to a few spoken words.
Where does the Bible impact us most? What verses carry the greatest weight? Which groups of words can we return to over and over, because we know we will find strength in them?
Psalm 56:3 tells us that God is our strength when our world seems ready to crumble around us.
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Deuteronomy 5:7 cautions us that we cannot trust anything other than Christ for our salvation.
“You shall have no other gods before me.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16 makes it clear our attitude builds our aptitude.
“Be joyful always.”
Proverbs 3:5 says we might not have it figured out, but God does.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”
Romans 12:12 gives us rejoicing, patience, and prayer as our foundation in Christ.
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
2 Timothy 1:7 assures us we don’t have to live a life of fear.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
Psalm 118:24 reminds us that Christ is our gift-giver, and each day is a blessing from him.
“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
1 John 2:6 presents Christ to us as our ultimate example.
“Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”
Philippians 2:14 wants us to brush our chips off our shoulders and get busy.
“Do everything without complaining and arguing.”
Colossians 3:2 is our reminder that what we think on is where our feet will lead us.
“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.”
1 Timothy 6:6 wraps a great truth in a nugget of wisdom.
“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.”
Titus 2:11 reminds us that Christianity is all about the grace of the cross.
“For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.”
We can talk all we want. It’s when we store the Word in our hearts that we’ll find our hearts will want to know more of the Word.
