The Special Blessing

Sometimes good stuff rubs off on us.

We don’t have to be especially brilliant. We can be in the right place at the right time, and things fall into place. It’s nothing we do, but rather the circumstances we’re in. Good fortune comes our way, and we can soak it up.

Other times it’s the people we surround ourselves with. Someone dazzling strikes it big, and we enjoy the ride all the way to the top. We’re not the one with the talent, fame, or money, but we benefit anyway.

2 Chronicles 2:11-18 is a testament to the God of Israel. Even the kingdoms that were at odds with Israel knew that to help out the Israelites was to gain favor in the sight of the One True God, whose truth and magnificence was revealed by divine revelation directly to the children of Israel.

When Solomon was preparing to build the temple, he requested aid of Huram, king of Tyre. The king replies in verses 13-14:

“I have sent a cunning  man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s, the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skillful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with your cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David your father.”

The king of Tyre sent his very best. Why? He knew God’s blessing on Israel would rub off on the kingdom of Tyre in the process.

When we offer our best to Jesus, our coming king and Lord, the same thing happens to us. We don’t have to be especially brilliant. Rather, we must be in the right place at the right time, and that’s at Jesus’ side. We must surround ourselves with the right people, and those are our Christian brothers.

We may not be the one with talent, fame, or money, but we have the promises of our Lord. We will benefit from our association with him, because he is the best there is, and all goodness flows from his eternal hand.

When we hang out with Jesus, all his special blessings will spill over onto us.
