Step into the night, and watch a thunderstorm roll across the distant plains, with lightning flashing through the clouds. Stand beside a waterfall, and feel the ground shake under our feet. Visit the ocean, and listen to the breakers as they fall against the shore.
God’s hand created each of these, and without his touch, they will collapse into no more than sparks and drops of water. What would be the enjoyment in that?
Our God is a WONDROUS God who does mighty and mysterious things, and we get to enjoy the results. All we need to do is get out there and enjoy them.
Let’s look at our WONDROUS God:
W – He controls the WATERS of the earth’s seas.
Exodus 14:21-22 is about the Red Sea dividing for the children of Israel. The WATERS were divided, and the people walked into the midst of the sea on dry land.
When we feel we are going under for the final time, remember, somewhere down there is dry land. God can find it for us.
O – His OUTSTRETCHED arm brings all things into being.
Jeremiah 27:5 says, “I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my OUTSTRETCHED arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet (proper) unto me.”
No matter what we need from God, he has it in his hand. All he has to do is offer it to us.
N – His coming is the NOISE that thunders across the land.
Joel 2:5 likens the Lord’s appearance to “the NOISE of chariots on the tops of mountains” and “the NOISE of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble.”
When the Lord comes into our presence, we will mistake him for no one else. He will rattle our very bones.
D – He slays the DRAGONS that oppress us.
Isaiah 27:1 paints a magnificent image of our God, for “in that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the DRAGON that is in the sea.”
There will be no evil that can escape his mighty hand.
R – He RESTORES every broken thing in our lives.
Psalm 23:3 tells us he RESTORES our souls, and we will walk in righteousness for his name’s sake.
He lifts us up, for when we walk with him, his renewal comes to us each and every day.
O – He OPENS his hand that he might meet the needs of his creation.
Psalm 145:16 lifts the Lord in praise and majesty, for in his OPENED hand, we will find the answers to all our prayers.
When we come before God on our knees, we can rest assured that he created the answer before the world was formed. He holds it out to us, if we will only reach and take it.
U – He UNCOVERS all that is hidden.
Jeremiah 49:10 speaks to the story of Esau. God has UNCOVERED him in all his deeds and nothing can be made secret.
There is no mystery to God, for all the secrets of man are his to peruse.
S – He SPEAKS with the sound of the angels’ wings.
Ezekiel 10:5 describes the Lord coming in the firmament, and the prophet’s words tell us “the sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he SPEAKS.”
God’s voice is heard in every aspect of our world, both physical and spiritual. If we listen, we will find him everywhere.
God is magnificent. His creation speaks for him. He has all power, and there is none that can stand before him. When we want to get excited, all we need to do is find God in the world around us.
If it is grand and glorious, we know it must be God.
