Our HOLIDAY God

Sometimes we need a break from our everyday routine. We need to shake it up, to look at new scenery, and to have someone treat us as if we’re special.

God does that for us. He lifts us on high, and makes sure we know he loves us. He gives us a HOLIDAY from the daily drudge, and he spices up our lives.

Let’s look at our HOLIDAY God:

H – His land is a HEAVENLY land, and there is nothing that can compare.

Hebrews 12:22 describes Mount Zion, the city of the Living God, which is the HEAVENLY Jerusalem. There we will find a multitude of angels to be our companions, and we will rejoice with them.

O – His hand is OUTSTRETCHED to provide us with provisions for our every need.

Jeremiah 27:5 states God’s glorious position. He is the one who has made the earth, including all the people and the animals on it. By his OUTSTRETCHED hand it was created, and he offers it to whomever he will.

L – He is our LIVING God, for he is the joy in our days and the comfort in our nights.

Psalm 84:2 lifts up the holy God, who carries us far from our workaday world. When we are in the courts of the Lord’s temple, our hearts will shout in the presence of the LIVING God!

I – He is the IMAGE of our every desire, and that which draws us to his presence.

Genesis 1:27 tells us we are created in the IMAGE of the holy God of all creation. When he rejoices, we rejoice. When he is sad, we are sad. When he goes on holiday, we go on holiday. We are like unto him, and he understands and cares for us completely.

D – He is the DREAM that gives our lives new direction.

1 Kings 3:5 gives us our example of God as a DREAM, for in the midst of Solomon’s night, God appeared to him as he slept, asking him, What do you wish from me?

A – He is our ANSWER, come to give us escape.

Psalm 138:3 is our escape clause, for when we cry unto the Lord, he will make us bold, and his energy will flood our veins. We will know the splendor of the Lord in his high places.

Y – He YEARNS for us, desperately wishing to spend time in our presence.

Genesis 43:30 falls in the middle of the story of Joseph, an archetype of Christ. When Joseph meets his brother Benjamin, he is overcome with affection, and he yearns to reveal his true nature unto the one he loves.

When God goes on HOLIDAY, he makes it a time we will never forget. He draws us to him, provides all our provisions, and entertains us in HEAVENLY places. His holiday is the best there is.

When we vacation with God, he makes it a time to remember.
