Twice the Blessing

When is enough enough?

Some counselors (and pastors) say that only when we are content with what we have will we find inner peace, or that contentment that lets us relax and say to ourselves, “All is well with my soul.”

There is truth there, but where do motivation and perseverance slot into that philosophy? What about the church carpet that’s wearing out? The air conditioning that struggles to cool the auditorium? Moving to a new city for better job prospects? What about that, the hope to improve our situation so that we can help improve the situation of those around us?

Let’s look at two verses today, a 1st blessing from the Lord, then a 2nd that leapfrogs us past the first.

Exodus 12:2 in the ESV tells us:

“This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.”

Shrug, you say. Yah. January 1st, day one of the year, day one of the month … we have one every year. How’s this an inspiration?

No, no, you’re seeing this from a worldly viewpoint. Look at it from God’s eyes. Here’s what you should see: The past is gone. You can’t retrieve it, nor can you go back to the mistakes you made or the trouble that you’ve endured. Let them go. Break into the new year as a BRAND-NEW PERSON.

Yeah, that’s how God wants you to respond.

Now let’s double that blessing in Jeremiah 29:11 in the ESV:

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Are you seeing it? The past is in the past, but God doesn’t leave us adrift. He has already determined the BEST POSSIBLE FUTURE YOU CAN IMAGINE.

What he requires from you is to TURN LOOSE. Let yesterday take care of yesterday, and let God lead you into a NEW YEAR FILLED WITH HOPE, GOODNESS, AND THE GOOD THINGS YOU NEED to have the very best year possible.

All is well with my soul. The LORD has plans in process and is watching out over us! ALL IS WELL WITH MY SOUL!
