We’re aware of Charles Dickens’ tale of Christmas redemption.
Scrooge, Marley, and the Spirits of Christmas: past, present, and future.
Like Scrooge, we sometimes struggle to see good in anyone. Like Marley, we struggle with a past that we can’t change. And the Spirits of Christmas … well, they are all over the place.
Let’s take a look at how the Spirit of Christmas affects Mary in the Bible.
Luke 1:35 tells us:
“And the angel answered her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.’”
Of course, no one today expects a modern virgin birth, but there is a lesson for us in this.
Mary didn’t know what life held for her. We can all identify with that. Life can easily feel as though we’re making it up as we go along. We search for a rock-steady place for our feet, and yet, all our plans evaporate in smoke and mist, leaving us unanchored and adrift.
And then, the Spirit of Christmas Future appeared to Mary and changed everything.
“Your child will be called holy—the Son of God.”
When Scrooge saw the future, he was shaken to his socks, and he vowed to change his ways.
When Mary heard the words of the angel, she trusted she would carry a treasure that would impact the world.
Your future … what does God have for you? He does, you know, have a plan with you in mind. This Christmas, look for it. Through prayer. Through reading the Bible. Through advice from Christian mentors you can respect.
The Spirit of Christmas Future is waiting on you. Your time is here. Step into what God has for you today.
