Fall is a time of reaping.
We head into the field, for it’s time to gather up the bounty of the summer’s labor, of our spring planting, of all the effort and expense we’ve invested in our fields.
What we’re due becomes ours because we’ve worked, waited, and exhibited the patience required. No digging up the potatoes before their time, plucking the peaches before they mature, or snapping the green beans weeks early.
Our life with Christ is a planted field. We’ve had to mature in him, to be ready for the harvest, to ripen to just the correct stage of ruby red goodness.
James 5:7-8 in the NIV says:
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”
You may have felt forgotten during the rainy seasons of your life, but that was God watering your life so you could grow.
When the autumn winds begin to blow? He is telling you that he wishes to draw you to him … the harvest is near, and your time is about to come.
Wait on it, wait on it, you are God’s bountiful harvest. He will gather you in, and you will be with him for all time.
You are the glory of Christ in your autumn finest. He anticipates your presence with him.
